Hi all,

A friend of mine has a small shop that he wants fitted out with 10 ceiling speakers. What I'm looking for, is a suitable amplifier with the relevant line ins, aux ins, etc that can be used to power it.

It's not going to be loud, it's more chill / relax music (healthcare shop).

Ideally as cheap as possible :)

Hopefully someone can give me an idea :)

With 100V line you need to spec the amp for the combined maximum possible wattage of the speakers then add a 20% safety margin for music peaks. So your 10off 20W speakers means a 240W 100V line mixer amp. That's not going to be a budget solution. You're either looking at quite a potent mixer amp, or a smaller amp plus a slave amp for the extra power. That'll add quite a bit on top of the £227 speaker budget.

Now you've already said you don't need it loud. If it was me spec'ing this system I'd use more moderately rated speakers which for background music will work equally as well as the 20W jobs you've seen.

If you can live with 8 in-ceiling speakers rather than 10, then you can have a good quality background music system with a 60W mixer amp for £280 inc VAT + del. This isn't cheap junk though. It's proper commercial gear designed for reliability. It'll stand up to every day use.

Do you need control of different zones of music?

Either way, I'd definitely look at something from Cloud. They do a bunch of budget-friendly amplifiers with integrated mixers and you can add wall controllers to them later if you so desire.
