Not the same i know, but my brother in law just got discharged from the Royal Navy for having a smoke over Xmas.
This was despite all the people saying that they dont test for canabis because its too expensive.

My advice is dont do it unless you are prepared to throw away your career

If you want to smoke drugs whilst being in the army why dont you join the afghan national army, they smoke weed whilst out on patrol though understandably the British army give them a telling off.

Not good really, weird how different cultures operate

So you can't have fun without taking drugs in Amsterdam?

Personally I went there a year ago and had nothing more than a few drinks.

Got my selection just after i go to Amsterdam i will be drugs tested on it. I could take 0 substances in Amsterdam but where would the fun be in that ? :D Does anyone know what the army will do if they find drugs in my system on my selection ?

Try it and see. Doesn't sound like it'll be a great loss to the army if they chuck you.

Kick you out.

Why would you risk it seriously?

You have got to selection stage and you want to risk blowing it all up in smoke? Its a ****ing stupid idea.

Id kill to make it to selection but instead my application is put on hold until July and thats after i talked them down from making it September and getting told i was lucky I didnt get made medical unfit for good  :(
Thats a good 19months since i started my application!
If you are serious about the army you wouldnt risk it

If you're debating whether or not to risk your army career before it's even started don't bother going to selection, it doesn't sound like you care much about it either way.

If you do go to Amsterdam, use drugs, then turn up to selection be prepared for a polished boot up your arse propelling you in the direction of the door.

They don't do drugs test on selection, they do a urine test, but that's for other medical reasons, not drugs. Trust me, drugs tests in the Army are much stricter and more controlled that the urine test you do on selection.

Their thought is it's up to you what you do when you're in civvy street, but as soon as you get in, you follow their rules.

My advice though, stay away full stop :).

They test for drugs with the urine test also, then if positive they take a bloodtest. When I joined the Marines (albeit a long time ago) they did it even then. They are really strict on it now, well the RM are anyway.

Not during selection though, the urine test at selection is to check mineral levels and stuff like that, non of it goes off to a drugs lab. They only take the one sample, where as during a CDT(which I've done around 10 now at my current training unit) you give one monitored sample which is then split in to 3 vials, which are labelled, bar coded, then sent odd for analysis.

If you amsterdam trip is just before selection, I'd call off your booze fest.

You need a good rest a day or two before selection so you have the chance to get the best out of yourself up there, otherwise your in for a massive wait to get in.

Only grade A or B is worthwhile

I spoke to a friend still in service, he confirms that DT is undertaken at selection (done in the medical) in the RM, apparently because of the increasing use of drugs in civilian life, they no longer automatically bar you, it depends on the frequency and type of drug you are misusing. He says that you are normally told to reapply in 6 months. Although all enlisted personnel will be dishonourably discharged if found to be misusing drugs of any kind.

I dont know about the Army selection process.

Bottom line is Dont do it. If you cannot have a good time with using Drugs, then you need psychological help.

Yeah maybe RM/RN is different, but the two times I've done army selection no DT was done. The same thing happens though if enlisted personnel are caught, discharged, SNLR, Service No Long Required, and given a reference saying "Lead a life style incompatible with Army Life".

But yeah, bottom line is, don't bother, if you're asking these sorts of questions, you're most likely one of the scrotes who rocks up at selection and doesn't do very well. The army is MASSIVELY over manned at the moment, so you really have to shine at selection now.

I'm not comfortable with the discussion of open drug use in this thread, as per the FAQ and my discretion as a moderator I feel this thread has lead to becoming inappropriate content for the forums. Furthermore, I believe that the question has been suitably and overwhelmingly answered.

I trust you make the right choice - as has been mentioned several times here.
