Amsterdam in October?

My girlfriend and I are thinking of booking Amsterdam in October. Seen some good deals - Going first thing on a Thursday morning and coming back last thing on Sunday night so 4 full days there. Think it works out about £160 with flights and hotel.

We've been before in May. Will things still be as lively? What will the weather be like? Colder than the UK or warmer?

Also last time we went it was with a few friends so we basically went from bar to bar getting wrecked. :D Would like to do something different this time, any recommendations for places to check out?

Cheers.

Not really the place I would like to spend 4 days in October tbh, everywhere will still be open but it will be pretty cold.

I went a few yrs ago in march, was pretty nippy then.

Places to go/see

Heineken tour,

Rijak(sp) museum

Van Gogh museum

those were the 3 best imo, will post more later but I take it you dont want to spend all day wasted in the red light district.

Lucky for you, it rained when I was there :(

But just got back from there a few weeks ago and I must admit being there when its 35 degrees C was awesome.

Might be looking at the end of September now. Reckon that would be a bit better? It was really nice when I went in May.

Cheers for the input so far. :)

Weather wise it is the same as in the UK (but with a bit less rain but as it rains everyday in the UK that's not that surprising :p )

In september it can be 25C with sunshine or 8C with rain, you never know :(

Nice one mate going there in september for my birthday :)

I reccomend going to Amsterdam in the Winter, I've just returned from my fourth trip to the 'dam in two years and I found it almost unbearably hot for most of the holiday. Very few places are air conditioned and if like me you tend not to use the trams and like to explore the place by foot the heat can get to you. Also, it is a VERY busy place in summer, everything is still open in Winter but there are no/very few queues (I went in November '04.) Anyway, just wanted to say that I personally think the Winter is a great time to visit. Just try and do more than me and my mates do when we go (just spent 5 days touring coffeeshops tbh :D )

taken from just outide the Arun Irish bar ? :D

We went in December a couple of years ago, when EU Jet were still flying out of Manston - £12 return :p

We loved the city and the people. We were only there for the day, so didn't get to do everything - but things we saw which were cool were;

- Anna Frank museum, at the old house was very haunting.
- Flower market halfway up the main street.
- Bulldog pub in Liedseplein, with the huge Wurlitzer.
- Took a walk along some of the canals (the canal bus was quite expensive I seem to remember).
- Obligatory walk through the red light district!

All in all really enjoyed the day, would definitely go again. But would time it for the Queen's celebrations which are supposed to be really good.
