So i am going to Amsterdam for a Stag Do, and am trying to build up a pub / cafe crawl.

Anyone got any good routes that they have done or known about, and or best pubs/cafes to defiantly pop in for a try.

So not all of our group like the cafe's and would prefer to have a pint so the plan is to have a crawl that will satisfy the whole group so while some are in the cafe getting some "fresh" air the rest can have a pint or two in a pub close by :)

If the "fresh air" party are not big smokers you will not get very far... at all. The stuff over there is strong so unless they are massive pot heads they won't travel far after the first cafe.

Depending on how many of you there are you should be able to really easily just wing it as there are loads of cafes and pubs there and if the non smokers don't mind it, the cafes usually serve beer.

It's been decades since I have been to Amsterdam but I thought the law changed in the last year or so. I didn't think the coffee shops were allowed to sell alcohol. Or perhaps it is just not enforced or they didn't change anything in the end.

I haven't been for a few years now so that may well be the case. They entertain a lot of ideas in amsterdam but few seem to make it into law.

When I was there last year I got a pint along with a smoke in a bar, can't remember the name of it though :D

It was in this sort of square area, mostly wooden inside with pool tables at the back.

Thanks for information so far :) and the people that smoke aren't newbies so should be okay for a few hours :)

Will print that map off and maybe mark some more interesting areas as that first one seems to go up where our apartment is so good starting point :)

Might wanna take the drug reference out as the last thread about Amsterdam had a mass clean up and warning.

Pretty much all the cafes sell beer.

No they don't. Not after 2007 anyway

According to the Dutch government's regulations for coffeeshops, an establishment cannot sell cannabis products and also sell alcohol. There used to be a few coffeeshops that did double as pub-like places, selling beer. But in April 2007, they were forced to decide between selling cannabis products and alcohol.

Of course, with all regulations come loopholes for those rules. Because the law focuses on the sales of cannabis and alcohol, but not necessarily the consumption of them, there are some bars and cafes that claim to be "smoker-friendly." One of the best examples of this is Barney's Uptown, where you can enjoy beer, wine or spirits while smoking a joint, because they don't sell cannabis. To purchase that, just head across the street to Barney's Coffeeshop.

Café Gollem for definite. Great little pub with a massive variety of beers, and a huge pub cat that loves a belly rub. Well, the cat may not be there any more as I last visited in 2008.
