C64. The other two were badly made (I assume that those people waxing nostalgic over the Spectrum keyboard never had to actually use one) and essentially pretty poor. The C64 wasn't without its faults, but was still the best of the three.

I only ever seen one of these in person but never played it so can't vote.

My first games console was the mega drive so when I saw it I thought it was a joke, tapes are for music I thought!

I owed a 48k speccy in the early 80's and loved it but over the following years played a lot of C64's at friends houses - at the time graphics and sound didn't come into it for me. So based purely upon what I had the most fun memories with I'd say the Speccy.

Amstrad. Full colour monitor and built in tape deck. Still got mine in the loft and it still works. I check it every few years with a game of After Burner.

Started with a Speccy 48K which was transported into a C64 "style" case with bigger keys as my fat fingers didn't like the rubber keyboard. Then I had the 128k+, then the Speccy +2 before finally the holy grail , The Speccy +3!!!!!!!

Dad had a BBC micro B but we never had anything better than those retro units until the mid 90's I think.

PS

10 Print "Speccy for the WIN!!!!!"
20 GOTO 10
RUN

LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!

Spectrum for me :D Even though it was a technical limitation, I always liked the colour clashing for some odd reason, You could always recognise a speccy game when that happened lol

That said, some developers did some great work to counteract the colour clashing with "The Trapdoor" being a very good example

Spectrum definitely, it had the widest variety of games, and I was always going round my mates to play on it because all I had was a Amstrad CPC464 with green screen which I occasionally hooked up to the TV when my parents let me.

Had a Spectrum then later a C64. But my vote goes to the C64 as this was the machine I cut my programming teeth on. Learnt 6502 Assembly language on it and wrote some pretty crap games - for fun :s

Spectrum all the way,no other computer kicks you in the nuts quite the same after 30 minutes of loading or game loads and joystick unresponsive. Ahh those We're the days!

C64 for me, did anybody have the rare C128?

I did but spent most of my time in C64 mode (go64) to playing all those great C64 games and demos. Sadly there were not many games written to take advantage of C128 additional capabilities. I don't think they were that rare according to wikipedia they sold over 4 million of them.

Spectrum 16K
Spectrum 48K
Spectrum 128K
Spectrum +3

Great machines although the build quality when they got taken over by Amstrad was pretty poor. I think the spectrum was the best platform overall, especially when it came to the dizzy games, if you had the multiface 3 at the time you were golden.

GTFO C64 users! :p
The 464 with it's Z80 cpu was the don to program for and had some great productivity software to boot. Games wise - Gryzor from Ocean was so good graphically that it looked like a 16bit title.

I had a 464 with a colour monitor and I wish I had never sold it now, as I miss Match Day 2 terribly. Amstrad users - did you ever come across a strange title called Qabbalah? This one of those games that came with no instructions and NO ONE knew how to play it.

My mate had the CPC464 and I had the C64, I think the C64 was best :p

We both went for Amiga 500+'s after that :)

C64 with 1541 Disk Drive for all that floppy goodness = win

All the Bards Tale games and the TSR games came into their own on a 1541, I don't think any computer peripheral or component I have bought since was quite as exciting as the day I got my 1541 :D

For this reason alone (I haven't even taken into account the massive catalogue and the ability to play carts and supurb sound) C64 is the best by a 2 country miles ;)
