Including but not limited to anything that requires one to enter one’s credit card details for a free month’s trial.

Did just that yesterday to an medication app and no sooner had I entered my details and clicked submit, Woosh- 50 pounds gone from my account.

Then, of course, no channel of communication to get my money back.

Eventually I did get a reply to a Tweet & I’ve been promised a refund but will take up to 10 days.

These days I never ever do anything which involves "free trial" but have to enter payment details unless I'm actually planning on paying anyhow and try to avoid paying for anything online that I can't use PayPal or similar for.

Yes and also anything that doesn’t offer an easy route to cancellation.

Had a torrid time ridding myself free of the tentacles of Talk Talk a couple of years ago.

They just kept billing me even though I had cancelled my subscription.

And, get this (didn’t realise this before) even if you cancel your DD, it seems these ******** have the power to reinstate it

Its a scam it sets up a continuous payment authority (CPA) on the card you'll have an expensive subscription to some e-magazine or somesuch you didn't want and you'll likely have to go your bank to cancel it and attempt to get your money back. See Rip Off Britain on the BBC.

Is this because none of your details match who you say you are?

Revolut has 1 time use cards for just this scenario. Don't load any cash onto it, use the card to sign up. If they try and take money there's nothing there for them to take.

i do the amazon prime trials as it saves me money ,on a purchase yesterday it was a fiver postage or 99p for a weeks prime so a no brainer if you set a reminder on just cancel straight away

I usually try to pay for a full period in one go.

I'm not a fan of them taking money out every week as if something happened and I needed to fall back on to savings I wouldn't know instantly if I was ok or not.

Firstly its an aversion and secondly, no, because if I don't want to subscribe to something I just don't subscribe. Most things are going subscription. Its expensive to run services and a steady income stream for service providers is the only way to run these things.

sales as a service/subscriptions should die.....

I remember when you bought something once and you owned it, everything will be in the cloud if they get their way and you will own nothing.

because its not stored locally future generations will be brainwashed into thinking its fine.

As stated, Revoluts single use cards basically makes this problem go away. Wouldnt use my normal bank account for 'trials' etc these days

Same here. Disney+, Amazon Prime and Asda delivery pass are paid by the year. Get reminder by email to say that my sub is due for renewal then I pay up again. I also used to have an Android app that was on a yearly sub and that was easy enough to cancel inside of Google Play.

Thing I find annoying is when I actually really just want to buy something, like I'm happy to hand over some cash, right now, to buy a product..... but I'm forced into a subscription. Does my head in.
