An all encompassing Steam FAQ thread

Would GameSaveManager help with the saved games when replacing the OS drive?
Or do i have to manually copy the saves over to the new OS drive?
As a few are in the Documents and appdata folders.

Yes, it's pretty much it's intended purpose. :)

When you run it, you can create a backup file containing all of your saves (or just the ones you want). Provided the saves are in the correct place, and the games are supported, GSM will do all of the searching and copying them for you.

Then once you've reinstalled your machine and all the games, you can restore that backup file.

Say I want to use my laptop instead of my main PC to download games overnight in order to save some juice, what folders do I move where to transfer the game to the main PC? I guess this is sort of like the second item in the FAQ but I am not wanting to move the entire Steam folder, just individual games and presumably their install data/cache files?

Cool, will give it a try tonight. Steam is already on a secondary drive, so that shouldn't affect much I think.

Thanks :)

Is there any way to manually download multiple Steam games at once or can this only be done at the moment you purchase a group of games?

I know you can download them simultaneously by manually going through each one and clicking install but that's a bit of a pain in the bum.

Simultaneously install multiple titles you mean? No way that I know of I'm afraid. :(

You absolute noob, just use the ingame backup function to make a backup set on the laptop, copy the files over the network and restore on the main pc

Or just copy and paste the files, skipping the whole backup process. To get the files into your library you need to right click and select install on the relevant game names but since the files are already there this only takes a couple of seconds.

Thanks very much.
Just got my Force 3 120Gb Ssd :D
Now got 'just' my Steam StalkerCOP onto my Ssd, and now eventually it's stutter free! Thanks again, for the 'GameSave Manager' and instructions, it's a fantastic wee program, I didn't know it backs up your saves, then syncing with dropbox!:)

Sorry if this has been asked before but will Game Save Manager allow me to install a couple of my Steam games onto a SSD and the rest on to a physical drive?

Yes. :)

You'll want to install Steam normally on the physical drive. Then use the Steam spreader option in GSM to copy the particular games you want to the SSD.
