An AMD 7950 Question

Nice suggestion, but i also want to know if this is a good card and what is it like compared to other cards (GTX 660 TI, other variants of the 7950).

7950 boost > 660ti specially after releasing the new AMD drivers

and this one

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-065-HS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1673 is probably the best one or surely one of the best ones 7950s due to great performance, cooling, and power consumption :)

It depends on what games you play.

Also most 7950 will overclock into the region of a stock 7970, I'm not sure how well the 660Ti overclocks.

Combined with the free games a 7950 is good value for money ATM.

You can't trust those results as they were done months ago when drivers were poor and there was no boost function for the 7950, have a quick google for benchs using the 12.21 driver that compare to the 660Ti and it's latest driver.

Form a quick look a Tweak Town's reviews it still seem to be rather dependent on the game, and the resolution that it is played at.

Nvidia's drivers have also improved over the same period.

my mate has this one
YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) with FREE FARCRY3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs & 20% off MOH Warfighter PC Games £239.99
Total : £250.79 (includes shipping : £9.00).

Against my EVGA 660 TI

ran heaven benchmark, everything as full as it would go for the benchmark at stock settings my 660 ti came out on top by 3 fps. however if we were to overclock. think he would have beasted it.

+ 7950 will be better for higher resolutions > greater than 1920 * 1080. and is better for dual monitors due to the 660ti's limited memory bandwidth

Im an nvidea boy myself so i will always stick wit their cards however i usually advise others to get radeon 7950 when just for gaming. if it will be used for art rendering / 3d modelling software in which case nvidea cards are better.

Nvidia's drivers have also improved over the same period.

Those reviews were both done in August, the latest AMD driver gives the 78xx + 79xx cards an increase of up to 20% alone in BF3 and any subsequent games that use that engine.

Now with the new 12.11 drivers the 7950 is competing with the 670 gtx and when both cards are overclocked the 7950 usually comes on top. There are many 3d mark 11 and oc threads on this forum showing 7950s smashing scores.

Anyway, I got my 7950 today and with my 1150 / 1500 overclock my minimum fps in bf3 is 58 and it rarly goes under 60 and I can not stress enough RARELY

I had the IceQ boost but returned it as I'm anal about noise as I could just hear it@idle.

Underload, the cooler is one of the quietest out the box custom cooled card I've used though.

The card was a cracking clocker that was=to my current average clocking 7970 ingame.

Even if the 50 was an average clocker, it still won't be that far behind ingame at all.

Moral of the story is: being so anal about noise, cost me +£70 for the same performance.

Nvidia's drivers have also improved over the same period.

I have no doubt about that, but, performance is in a whole new place with 12.11 betas.:D
