An attempt at tone mapping

I used photomatrix to create an hdr image from the various exposures i shot, then i used the tone mapping plugin

all crits welcome - bear in mind i`m a complete amateur so be gentle

bonus point for anyone who can guess the location

as for the light, well it was getting late and dying to chuck it down , it was hard getting a half decent exposure as the clouds were either getting washed out or the ground too dark, im gonna have to get some filters and learn how to use them i think

I think that an ND grad would have probably been the weapon of choice here. I know that HDR is all the rage but I feel that it is limited in its application. (Not having a dig at you - I am guilty of using HDR where it is unnecessary too!! )

I know what you mean, i really only wanted to use it as an easy way to blend my shots but i thought the tone mapping plugin made it look a lot better than my origional , sort of dark and bleak (which it is at that location heh)

i quite like it...the symmetry works well. But theres just something about *** tone of a HDR that just looks wrong imo. you tried it as a b&w?

when i took the shot the symmetry was the only thing that i could do to make it a bit interesting as theres nothing around except grass ,mud and rabbit droppings

i havent tried doing anything else to it yet, i may have a play around later

gonna have to get some filters though, as quite a few of my shots were too dark or washed out to use
