does this sound like a reasonable idea?

i would like to eventually get a 3 monitor setup going [have used 2 since uni with laptop and second screen]

now my laptop has died and i only have a single 22in lg TN panel [cheap and 16x9 yuck!]

i was thinking of getting a IPS panel [either new hp zr24w or dell u2410] for main central monitor [main central monitor, blu rays, inet, photoshop etc] and 2 tn panels for the left and right.. this this a good idea/reasonable idea? or is a bigger monitor or something else a better option?

must be 1920x1200 [16x10] any bigger than 24 and res would have to be higher, i used a 17 on 1920 for years

Something to think about is that the TN panels will have poorer viewing angels than any IPS monitor and your proposing to use them as side monitors. You'll habe a noticanle shift in colour across the monitors.

Agree with niggyg you would seriously notice the difference between the different technologies.

An eventual 3 monitor set-up sounds good when you eventually get 3 monitors the same/same technology though ;)

thats not what i wianted to hear lol

is an IPS that much better than a TN that its instantly noticable? ive never seen a TN in person before.

id love to have 3 dell u2410s but practically that seems like a very long term goal in the UK

anything bigger than a 24 is also very expensive, especially with more pixels

If wanting to go with an eyefinity setup but it's something I think I need to play with to actually decide if the outlay is worthwhile. And even then it's a large chunk of money that would probably be wiser to throw at the mortgage. :-/

I think I'll get one U2410 at some point then test it alongside two 2407wfp's we have at work to see how much I enjoy eyefinity. The one U2410 will be a nice upgrade to my E228WFP.

I built my eyefinity set up out of second hand Dell 2407's that i found in the members market so go them at a reasonable price. i.e. £200ish each

See picture below of current set up, with 42inch LCD above them.

Once you've gone triple screen, be it eyefinity or triple head you won't want to go back.

defo get some second hand 2407's or 2408's mate, VERY VERY good monitors for the price of them second hand.

And you have a good chance that some are still within there 4 year warrenty

WOW! That's nice!

You need to tweak your desktop image though.

Cheers, it is good fun having it.

The desktop image was sized correctly initially as the screen was set at 5760 *1200.

I've since put on the Catalyst 10.3 drivers that allow for bezel management and hence increase the number of pixels so as to hide an amount of pixels behind the bezels, so the desktop resolution has increased by around 300 pixels in width to 6060 * 1200 and hence put the desktop image out.

Will have to strech the image in Paint.net to fit me thinks.
