it is a good article though maybe slightly one sided. However, as said, Sony have had absolutely ages to get this sorta thing right. I am talking about the downloading in the background part, as listening to MP3's in game is not something so blindingly obvious to be added. The fact that online friends lists are, at the moment, being done on a "per-game" basis is something i knew about before but it just goes to highlight how slow they have been developing the software. They got development kits out before even 360's were out yet they haven't had time to sort out the network software and code properly?
Oh dear.
They best get this fixed before many more games come out or it will be a total mess. I think an integrated friends list is one of the most important things for online gaming in a console. Even the Wii should have a single list and that has little online aspirations for now.
Resistance won't have many people playing online in a few months time if a single list is implemented and the game isn't patched, no one will know if their friends are playing it or not.
Some of the PS3s features look superb, things like the removable hard drive and ability to boot an OS (great for homebrew). Some are just flashy (like the photo's being drawn on screen like physical photo's) and should never have been prioritised over the friends list etc.
I think that has been long running theme throughout the PS3's development cycle. Flash and gimmicky over ease of use and functionality. Sony better get to work. They have a lot of catching up to do.
