Hi,

Could anyone tell me please how I can find the date of manufacture of my monitor?

Also what is the very latest firmware for this screen and does anyone have any idea what order the firmware revisions go in and what issues the various firmware updates fix?

Thank you.

The date of manufacture can be found on the HP box and the firmware version that I have, my monitor being manfactured in April 2009 is GIG068, I have no issues with this firmware.

Thank you for your help.

The reason I ask is I've just bought this monitor a couple of days ago.
I'm extremely happy with it except for the pink/green colour gradient issue that's been well documented.
For general every day use I could probably live with it but my main use for this screen is photo editing where the issue becomes a bit of a concern.
I was informed by an HP technician that this issue is a known problem and that the updated firmware fixes the issue. Whether this is true or not, I don't know, I'm awaiting confirmation.
My screen is made in February 2009 and has firmware version GIG 045 installed.
I wanted to ensure my replacement screen is one with the latest firmware, hence my question.

Fingers crossed the replacement is without the problem.

I had this firmware revision back in the early part of this year, but there are a couple of bugs in the actual firmware so I sent it back to HP (from whom I bought it) and got a refund; it is only recently (the last couple of weeks) that I bought another, direct also from HP, having reckoned that the GIG045 firmware would have been superseded...firmware GIG068 works fine with me.

Could you tell me what the bugs are with firmware GIG045, other than the colour issue that I'm aware of?
I'm in the process of getting mine replaced but unfortuanely there is no way of telling whether the replacement will have the same GIG045 firmware or the later GIG068, that I'm hoping for.
I also bought mine direct from HP. Good price and service but I wish they could guarantee the replacement will have the latest firmware. Which, apparantly they can't.

There where 2 "bugs," one of them and that was the "Bezel Power LED" setting in "Management" did not save on exit of Menu, which mean't the you could not turn the green LED light @ bottom right of monitor off, see Here

Thanks.
I've just put an order in for a replacement so I'm keeping my fingers crossed the new one doesn't have the tinting problem.
I could live with the LED bug but not with the colour issue.

Hi, yes direct from HP.

I've just ordered a new one and have arranged for the collection and a refund on my old one.
I didn't want to do a straight replacement as that would have meant a delay of several days between the old one being collected and the new one being delivered.
At least this way I won't be monitor-less and I'll have an oppurtunity to make sure the new one isn't worse than the one it's replacing.

How correct this is I don't know, but according to their technical support advisor. The colour tint is a known issue on the GIG 045 versions, but not on the earlier firmware GIG032 or on the later GIG 068 or the very latest GIG 072 (although it could be too early to tell on that firmware model).

It makes me wonder, why, if they knew that the GIG 045 had issues, did they send out a defective screen in the first place???

We'll see :)

Hi,

Because the monitor is only a day or two old it is being repalced with a brand new one. I believe you have 28 days in which to notify them of any issues, then, as far as I know you have the option of a replacement with a new one, a refurbished one, or a refund. Personally I wouln't even consider a refurbished one. I've paid the full price for a new one, so that's what I expect to be honest.
Regarding the latest firmware, apparantly they have no way of knowing what firmware is installed. The monitor has a product number and that's it, it's the same number no matter what firmware is installed. I'ts just pot luck which one you get apparantly. I'll just keep my fingers crossed for an 068.
It's taken me hours of talking to them on the phone, being shifted from one department to the next, just to find out the above.
Hopefully the replacement will be here on Friday, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I really hope I can eventually get one without the tint issue because apart from that I think it's a superb screen. I'm quite seriously into wildlife and landscape photography and seeing my images displayed on the 2475 compared to the CRT screens I'm used to is like night and day.

I purchased one in march and tech support knew about the issue then. Had 2 units same firmware, so sent back for a refund.

Can't believe the HP store is still shipping units with 045 firmware on, since it is a know issue. They are obviously hoping people don't notice the issue or just put up with it.

The tech support guy also said he was suprised the 045's were still being shipped.
I guess the issue isn't a major issue for some, but for Photoshop work it's just a bit too obvious for my liking, which is a real shame, as there don't seem to be a whole lot of alternatives at a similar price. Unfortunately the equivalent Eizo 24" is three times the price.
Anyway, replacement is due today so I best get this old one packaged-up and ready for collection.

Hi,

The replacement arrived on Friday morning as promised and thankfully I've got one with the GIG 068 firmware.
There doesn't appear to be any green or pink tint on this one, or if there is, it's so faint that it isn't an issue.
The only thing I'm slightly concerned about is a pale beige strip, almost like a very faint shadow, that runs along the left edge of the screen (as you're looking at it), from top to bottom. It's only about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide and is only really noticeable against a white, or very pale background. Perhaps I'm just being a bit too picky. I'm not overly bothered about it because the extreme left edge is hardly a critical part of the screen.
I guess I've got 28 days to decide whether to keep it or to try again for another one. I'm off in an hour or so for a couple of weeks away, so I won't get a chance to thoroughly test the screen untill after I return, so I'll make a decision then.
I'll probably end up keeping it just in case the replacement one comes with the 045 firmware on it, I'd be back to where I started then.
The image quality is stunning and that's my main concern.
I'll keep you updated, whatever I decide and thanks again for your help throughout this thread.
