A few weeks ago when viewing some stereoscopy images, I noticed my right eye wasn't as good as my left. carrying out a few tests, I saw that my right eye sees a slightly blurred image of the main image, copied and faded below what I'm viewing. its hard to explain so heres a picture I've made of what I see through my right eye:

I dont notice this effect with both eyes open, I assume my left eye compensates for this.

I saw an optician on friday. I had a graduate optician carrying out the usual tests to see if my eye has a perscription and which lenses might fix it. However, no perscriptions fixed the double vision. Which im guessing means i have neither near or far sight or astignatism. She was getting quite exctied as she'd never seen it before.. The senior optician had a look and couldn't figure out what was wrong either. he said there was something odd about my right lense; that is slightly "darker than normal", something usually related to diabeties (though im not diabetic). They're getting me in for more tests tomorrow and if those are inconclusive, they'll refer me to an eye hospital for further tests.

Question time: Does anyone have any insights? experienced anything like this before?

cheers. Joe

I have something similair with my left eye. When i was about eight years old i developed shingles near my eye, which affected the vision in that eye. Wore glasses for over 10 years but didnt really help much. I cant really see that well from my left eye at all.

I have a "lazy" right eye. I can only read the top two rows of the eye sight chart so i guess thats pretty bad and i suppose would count as being partially sighted in that eye. As a child i had to wear an eye patch over my left eye in the hope to strengthen the right - didnt work tho. Its hard to describe how i see out of it as to me its just normal as its been that way all my life.

I have a lazy right eye too, and my left eye isn't too good either. In my case they suspect the optic nerve. One specialist originally thought astigmatism but that was later ruled out.

Chances are you don't see it with both eyes open because your brain is ignoring the 'bad' image. Some simple depth perception tests can confirm this (good depth perception is the main thing you lose with only one good eye).

thats quite odd, as the only way I could explain is if your eyes werent exactly looking at the same place you'd be seeing double.. but just 1 eye, hmm.

My eyes see slightly different hues, one sees the world a bit warmer, and the other a bit colder hue.

I have this! Always wondered what it was... it makes you wonder, which one does the world really look like? Perception is different to everyone.

Anyone got any more info?

Same here. One of my eyes is *slightly* contrastier too. My wife thinks I'm mad when I tell her my eyes are different. She can't tell any difference between hers, but then she's practically blind as a bat!

I get a similar problem to the OP, but usually only when it's approaching 3am and I've been on the beer!

I had a rare eye disease as a child from roughly 5 till I was about 15. I visited specialists around the country and had all sorts of tests etc.
I grew out of it luckily, basically my blood vessels used to burst leaving me with blood like clots visible in my vision with what can only be described as 'cloudy' bits floating around. I couldn't even see 1 meter in front of me.

I had roughly one hemorrhage per month and it would take about two weeks to clear up. The amount of time I missed from school is roughly about 2 years in total, could be slightly more. Also I could not head the ball during football, and couldn't play at all when I had the inflammation on the eye (you try playing football with one eye closed, more or less impossible)

I've not had any trouble for about 9 years now but my vision still has cloudy bits floating about in both eyes (only tiny bits). I think I should be wearing glasses but back in the day they said it could cause more harm than good for one reason or another so I haven't bothered going opticians.

One of my eyes sees a slightly more blurry image and is a lot more sensitive to light, as in, a headlight or streetlamp will have very strong lines coming out of it and blur around it if you know what I mean? The other has slightly duller colour perception, but is much sharper.

I'm going to go and get my eyes tested soon...never had it done before. I'm confident that between my eyes I'm fairly good though. Think I might suit glasses however :p

Do you find that this is worse the closer the image is to your eyes, and at a certain point it goes back into a single image?
I had a similar problem when I was a kid, if I held my hand in front of my face, I would see two, but pulling it back slowly would move the images closer together until I saw a single hand. The term "conversion" rings a bell, but I'm not sure if that's quite right. Anyway, I was sent to a specialist at my local hospital who gave me exercises to strengthen my eye muscles which seemed to fix it.
