Evening all.

So, who is going to be getting an iPad? I've just sold my Advent Netbook and saved a small fund so hopefully I can get one on release :)

What is Apple like for product launch availability. I'm hoping to get one from the Apple store in Bluewater if they do a midnight launch or whatever?

I've only owned an iPhone (now HTC Hero) and Mac Mini (sold on..) in the past so looking forward to a shiny gadget for sofa surfing :D

Will probably just get a WiFi only one, as don't see it getting taken out and about much - but will wait until UK pricing in announced.

What is with the the hateful posts, let people spend their money on what they want - it's not going to affect you :p

I'm getting one to replace my netbook, because frankly all I did on my netbook was read stuff like OcUK on the sofa without having to distance myself from my girlfriend by tying myself to the PC desk in the evening. That plus being able to read comics, watch videos on a nice big quality screen and throw in things like the App Store for few little casual games and I'm happy.

I'm not a huge Apple fan but I know I'll be getting something with great build quality and a great user experience and a decent level of polish. Rather than some hastily thrown together mishmash of a tablet from another competitor which will work, but just won't be as nice to use. I've had two Android phones (a G1 and now a Hero) and whilst I like the OS, the screen etc is just not as responsive as the iPhone I'd used previously, and that was a 1st Gen 8gb.

Honestly, a bigger iPod touch is the description a lot of people use to 'insult' the iPad. They fail to understand that although they might want more, it is pretty much perfect for someone in my situation.

I don't want a Kindle (I don't buy books) I don't need a laptop as I have a fully blown gaming machine and PS3, I have an Android handset but that in-between gap, that bit where I want something more than reading on my phone, but don't want to be at the computer - showing youtube vids to friends, sharing photos, browsing, casual games, reading the news/magazines - is exactly where the iPad is useful and will excel.

I am not an Apple fan (I owned a Mac Mini for about 2 months before selling it) and believe me, don't have more money than sense (I've been saving hard since it was announced) but I know it will the be the product I want it to be.

Those that don't need that product, are those that slate it (ho ho!) the most.

but if i was as mentally challanged as the average Apple user, i would have a Mac..

Again, I'm not overly an Apple fan, but what are you, like 10 years old? Since when did brand preference have anything to do with mental ability.

Also, I'd imagine the average apple user is probably a web developer or graphic designer etc so probably not that mentally challenged :p;)

You would have to be a fool to buy an iPad, no two ways about that. All the points in that post i made on the previous page should have made that clear enough.

And i am a web developer, graphics deigner and 3D artist, but sadly a lot of other people in my line of work are surprisingly compueter illiterate and like to waste hundreds of £'s more on inferior handware for the sake of having a apple logo on there machine.

My previous post should explain why I want one clearly enough. So that makes me a fool does it. Just because 'fingerprints are annoying' and 'it's slippery'?

Also, computer literacy surely has nothing to do with Mac over PC or vice versa, personal preference really. I don't understand why people get wound up over it.

I'm guessing other people in your industry who can write various programming languages and deal with graphics and 3D models wouldn't consider themselves computer illiterate. There's definitely an aesthetic quality to Apple products which probably appeal to designers and people that are in to image. I'm not one of them, I look like a tramp :p

Can anyone tell me the deal with importing one from the US? Will it work over here straight out of the box?

Am getting annoyed with the lack of info from Apple over the UK release and price. The US have had far more notice over price, pre-order and availability yet we have nothing.

I agree, I have to say, I've been trying to budget for one on release, but it's pretty bloody hard when you don't know what they are going to announce. If they say the 16Gb is £350-399 I'll go for it, if it's more than that, I'll import one. It's potentially less than three weeks away if the rumour is anything to go by and they need to pull their finger out if they want to get a strong launch like Stateside.

I'd rather not have the thread locked guys, will be good when members start getting hold of theirs so can we keep the crap to a minimum please?
