An Observation on GD

The Child's Toys and the Old Man's Reasons,
Are the Fruits of the Two seasons.

We've had this exact same moan around this time last year, and the year before that, and quite possibly the year before that too. The irony with the OP is that you're complaining about GD (it isn't going to change) and in turn you're actually contributing to the crap.

Not everyone is using the forum for the same purpose, so get that through your head. You want pretentious debate? Go check out TSR's forums. I'm happy just here though, thanks. If I want to post a well-thought response I can do that in either GD or SC, but I got sick of SC due to the closed-minded types it attracted. GD, you can post whatever you feel like, when the fancy takes you. I may post something silly, if I'm just browsing for giggles, or I may write a whole essay if something really interests me; that's the beauty of it.

Some people need to stop taking it so seriously, it's just a forum afterall.

There's a sticky on GD thread quality - it's obviously not being given much thought.

But it is locked isn't it? So we can't debate it any more in there unless an admin unlocks it and we know that few people appear to read stickies.

SC isn't "very intelligent" discussion very often. It's just people who can be bothered to write the longest posts with the best layout look correct.

Maybe although I find some very interesting posts there every so often even if I don't post in the thread to say so. Then again I'm not sure I class as intelligent enough to pass muster so perhaps I'm wrong. :)

I'm not really complaining, just saying what I see, though I might be if it were my threads being trashed by people posting nonsense, though not this one as I actually expected it.

If this thread makes some think twice before spouting crap then great, though I'm not bothered if it doesn't either, as I've said I don't come in here much. Some of the best threads I've read on this forum have been in GD and have been 'comedy' threads which are fully of witty remarks, but when a serious or thought provoking and interesting thread gets trashed I would imagine the OP gets a little miffed as it ruins it for everyone.

To be honest I really can't see why you're surprised that each and every post isn't of the highest intellectual standard and whinging about it is just as retarded as the people making stupid posts.

Precisely. This is GD. The lowest ebb of the Overclockers forums. Expect occasional intelligence but mostly arguments, insults, rubbish jokes, stupidity and sarcasm.

There has been more bickering over the past week or so than normal though. May be something to do with the temperature. Who knows.

What's up your arse? Slighty out of tone there IMO.

I must admit, I have noticed a lot more silly bickering over the last week or so.

Uni/ school hols ;)

As it stands, GD is a fun forum where some useful information is exchanged, underneath all of the banter/humor/nonsense.

Coming from someone who is known for trashing threads, that's a bit rich :p

Question though, if you started a thread which was meant to be a semi serious discussion and someone deliberately trashed it with nonsense posts and got it locked, would you be bothered? You'd probably say no, there are more important things in life. Fair enough. But you would think, why did I even bother... A lot of the threads I've read today have gone that way, though some have been steered back on topic.

Yes it's an internet forum which are generally a playground for idiots, but I'd like to think this particualar forum is better than that.

The forum is what it is. I'm sure feedback is always welcome and the mods do their best but the best thing to do is either not be part of the "idiot playground" or contribute positively towards it and make a difference. :)

Indeed, you've answered that question.

I do sometimes. But it's expected here so it doesn't really bother me. If I have something serious to discuss which I care about, I post on other forums. To me, GD is for little more than banter, which works well with its high turnover of posts. I do enjoy some of the opinions posted here too.
