An Observation on GD

Personally, I think everyone needs to stop being so snobbish about the whole thing. Don't like it? Don't read it. Other forums here cater for other interests, and if a particular post is, in your opinion, adding no value, then just scroll past it.

Christ, it's a forum, people will post crap - get used to it and stop looking down your nose at it.

I agree with the OP, people start a geniune thread asking for a little advice and bang 3 or 4 ****s +1 the post count and add nothing to the topic.

Its the one area of OCuk forums I'd like to see moderated a little bit more.:eek:

x2 :D

Science? Space? Technology? There's a few subjects I'm surprised not to see more of.

yeah but then they would end up full of posts like

You have found a fixed, non-zero acceleration. Surely you can see that this shows the helicopter accelerating forever?

Without air resistance there is nothing to oppose the acceleration of the body, and as such there is no terminal velocity.

Also, bear in mind that although air resistance will be minimal it will always be proportional to the square of the velocity, as the body of the helicopter will be immersed in a turbulent flow.

To solve the problem you want, you need to solve the following equations:

helicopterrm4.png

...where alpha is the drag coefficient for the helicopter (look it up for a model helicopter), and Fx and Fy are the x- and y- components of the thrust force. You have solved for Fy, so you can just input Fx from the tangent of the tilt angle.

At terminal velocity you will have du/dt=0, so:

u_terminal = sqrt(Fx/alpha)

And my brain would burst. :(

Some people seem to be missing the point. I'm all for comedy threads, I love them as much as everyone else, but it's when someone starts a decent topical discussion which gets trashed that is daft and something I've noticed today. As said in the OP it only seems to come across as childish and only to add to one's post count.
