Hi, im just curious as to what my AMD Sempron @ 2ghz temperatures should be.
Im getting kind of worried because PC Wizard 2008 and the BIOS is reading 55-60 C under load and around 50-55 idle, but speedfan is telling me about 41 C under load.

I guess i should trust the BIOS and PC Wizards temps as i heard something about adding 15 C to the Speed Fan temps, so im a little worried because 60 C seems pretty hot.

That is too hot for a Sempron at 2ghz, very hot.
Is it on the stock cooler? And is said cooler dusted up to high hell? Used to use a Sempron 3000 in a PackardBell that started behaving a bit wrong, it just needed the cooler reseated.

You only need to add 15C for G0 stepping 65nm's I think - maybe 45nms as well, but definitely not your Sempron.

What version of Speedfan are you using?

What does the BIOS say when you turn of for the first time (i.e completely cold boot from ambient temp)?

Throughbred, its using a stock cooler, im not too experienced when it comes to computers so im not too comfortable removing or reseating the heatsink, although a few weeks back when i was clearing the dust out of my computer, i noticed very thick dust caked onto the heatsink, i managed to remove some with cotton buds but i think theres still a lot of dust in there since ive never cleaned round there in the 5 or 6 years i've had this PC.

edit: Just want to add that i dont experience any random shutdowns or anything.

Get a can of compressed air. Lindyclean's the one I'm using at the moment. That'll shift some of the more stubborn stuff

using the version 4.34, the latest i think, going to leave the computer off for a while and boot into the BIOS to check the temps

- CPUZ shot if this helps.

edit: - just wondered why does PC Wizard and a few other system info programs identify my CPU as a athlon xp 2400+

Apologies, I n00bed out and just assumed it'd be a 754 or newer Sempron.
Those temps are still high but they're not as bad given the core. A clean and re-seat of the cooler would sort it out but if it's not throttling down then you'd get away just running it like that.

have you cleaned your pc out lately, that mite be the cause of the heating, just hoover all that crap out and see your temps go down
