You probably know that Don was one of Andy's main inspirations then?
This is one of my favourite videos of guitar playing. Andy McKee's composition 'Rylynn' which is beautiful when he plays it solo. But with Don Ross and Michael Manring playing as well, it's just awesome.
And no, I haven't had the pleasure of witnessing Andy McKee in the flesh yet. That's why I'm so excited. Tommy is probably my biggest influence, and idol, so seeing him by himself is awesome enough. But to be supported by someone like Andy McKee, with such a unique style, is such an awesome bonus. Tommy's support is usually top notch though. The last times I've seen him he had Johnny Dickinson and Richard Smith. Both were fantastic.
I don't know if you've heard of Michael Hedges, but he was really the pioneer to all of the percussive steel string playing. Most of the techniques that Andy uses, such as slap harmonics, or moving his hand over the neck of the guitar and playing it the other way, were created by Hedges. You could check him out of you haven't already, he was really really good.
