New Build:- hi all, I am doing an upgrade and going from a Phenom ll to an I5 6500 on a gigabyte Z170-HD3P motherboard, with an Asus nvidia 970 gpu, with SDTEA-2x4 GD42400 mem, there will be 2 ssd drives and 2 old school ones, in an InWin 503 case, the info I am after is which PSU should I be using, I have already determined that the Corsair RM 750W would be a poss. but is it too much for the needs of the system I am building. Rem

not too fussed regarding modular as any surplus cables can be hidden, just need a decent psu to cope with the build and the fact that it will be a general/games machine

Like mentioned above Evga is definitely a good choice. A lovely 10yr warranty ontop of that. 550w is plenty but can always go 650 if budget allows. It's better to have more than less

This. EVGA G2. 10 year warranty, I'm running on the 750w G2 no complaints absolutely silent so far :D

yes I Have looked at the evga g2 650w and think I will go this way, but they are out of stock right now. Any advice on the cpu cooler or is the stock one adequate for the I5 6500.

My heart skipped a beat. Just realized you're on skylake, on OcUK it doesn't mention support of 1151.

However, after a quick Google and from coolermasters own website, I can confirm it is indeed compatible.

Regards.
