AN8 Sli post problem (think its dead)

Flat m8 was using his PC earlier and it suddenly rebooted, after that it wouldnt post anymore.

He is getting 1 long and 1 short beep. The error code shown on the motherboard is 8.3 or 3.8 (not sure on oriontation). Checked up online at 8.3 is listed as PSU ready.

1 long and x short beeps seems to be video related so we tried his gfx card in a different machine and it worked fine, tried a different gfx card in his machine and it didnt work.

Unfortunately we dont have any PSU's spare that can be used to test as they dont have the correct connections.

Does anyone know what could be the issue with regards to 8.3 error code and the 1 long, 1 short beep, when we try power up the system the motherboard led's and fans briefly power up then die.

Any help is much appreciated.

8.3. is almost always a PSU problem

one long, one short iirc is a DRAM error

You have tried clearing CMOS?

Tried clearing the CMOS, made no difference.

Looked up the 8.3 error code and it says "PSU Ready" according to the Award bios site and "Save all data in stack back to CMOS" for the instructions manual.

Will try out the ram see if that could be the problem (although only have the 2 sticks of DDR that are in the machine currently.

As I said if it hangs at 8.3. it's almost always a PSU problem.
What is it?

The PSU ?

Some nasty generic thing from PC World I think. Most likely is the PSU though as the rest of his system has pretty decent components.

Sounds like a likely candidate for the culprit then.
