AN8-SLI Premium onboard sound VS SB Live 5.1

Hi there,

There is a game port that came with this motherboard so i no longer 'need' to install it but although this card is quite old now would it still be better than the realtek AC-97 that comes with this board?

personally I think the sound quality on the ac 97 is pretty good...but my audio loving friend seems to think its cos i know no better lol. why not try the sb and hear the difference?

AC '97 is quite an old standard now which I thought was only strictly speaking two channel so I'd have thought a new motherboard would offer more than that. The SB Live is pretty ancient as well though, you may find it takes a little less CPU power than the onboard but I doubt it will be much so I'd suggest you try both and see which one gives the better quality

ok well i guess i should try it - i couldnt notice the difference with the sound on the abit AN8 it replaced so i doubt it will be any difference. I was also wondering about the performance hit on games too.

Hmm might be completely Different sound setup..

But i noticed a MAJOR Difference when i put an Audigy 4 7.1 card in my pc..

The sound on the Abit AN8 SLi Fatal1ty doesn't come any where near lol,

This card Is what i upgraded to - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 7.1 EAX Sound Card, for £35 it was a bargain.
