I've been looking at the Hauppauge HVR 1300, which works with Linux (apparently). But according to the gentoo wiki, the hardware decoder is not supported.

What's the decoder for? I thought you only need an MPEG encoder?
Anyone have any other TV tuner (analog or analog + digital) that works with Linux?

TIA

The decoder is for out putting a decoded MP2 stream to your TV. Alternatively you can use your gfx card, but unless your card has HW decoding, then it'll use the CPU. Not really a problem as any CPU greater than a PIII 500 will decode a mp2 stream. Problem is if you are doing other things as well.

The best for linux last I checked are :

pvr 150
pvr 500 (basically 2x 150 glued together)
pvr 350
But not the 250 I think.
