Analog monitor to digital gfx card

I bought my son a new graphics card for xmas, an ati r9 290. Unfortunately I didn't realise that his current monitor - a BenQ G925HDA - only has a d-sub port. The graphics card only has two DVI-D's.

So the problem I have is that I think the monitor only supports analog. Would an adapter work or I would need to purchase a converter? I'm pretty sure that a converter is required but I know nothing about them, could anyone link me one that would do the job? As cheap as possible ;)

Thanks

You are going to need an active convertor not just a passive form-factor adapter.

Can't post competitor links but just look for 'DVI-D to VGA active' and you should find what you need.

A 290 is complete overkill for 1366 x 768, you're much better off spending a few quid on even a used 1080p monitor and get the most out of it!

Thanks Teal, any idea on brand? Found one that was 12 quid and a startech that was 25.

Sorry, I can't recommend from experience as my last analogue monitor went a long time ago.

I do understand that buying a new monitor as well is probably out of the budget range right now, but it would be the best option as any money you spend on a convertor is ultimately wasted and is not going to deliver a result that does the card justice.
