anchor title for SEO optimisation

i've had a google around for this but i can't find anything relevant - try putting title and SEO into google, and the results aren't that relevant...oddly enough!!

i remember a while ago, Beansprout was whoring SEO for charity, and part of the link we had to pimp contained a title attribute. is it good practice to use title attribute for SEO, or has everything changed again? i figure it can't hurt to use a keyword-rich title tag, but i'd rather not go through and do the whole site if it's not going to make a difference!!

In the charity contest it was quite interesting - we had a two-keyword phrase to rank first in, and we actually ranked first for one of the words but, eventually, only 5th (3rd after the cheats were discounted) for the entire phrase.

We only used the phrase, and short variants of it (to reduce the spam alarms), but yes - the link title text is really important so it should be as relevant as possible
