Well I got it thursday but only got pics today.

After thinking about it for a while, I finally decided to go for it and get myself a nicer car, a rather nice (I think so anyway :p) Audi A6 2.7 TDI, a couple of years old with pretty much all the options i'd have chosen myself. It replaces a 2001 2.0 Mondeo Ghia. Few pics below :)

Hmmm, that is very, very nice. I just downsized from an Accord 2.2 iCDTI sport to a new shape Civic (again 2.2 iCDTI sport) - an I miss my big motorway mile cruncher a little.

I quite fancy 2 years on the Civic and then onto an A6. Mind telling us a ballpark figure of what to expect to pay for one of those big diesel bruisers?

Wahey, nice choice. I've got a 56 plate 2.0 TDI in Phantom Black :).

Isn't the boot just ridiculously huge? A little too large IMO as it sacrifices rear legroom. It's nice enough up front though ;).

Despite the impressive bulk and FWD they actually handle quite nicely if you're aggressive enough.

It now has 32100, had 31700 when I picked it up on thursday.

It depends on the spec you want really (obviously). If you're not bothered about spec then you can get 2.7 or 3 litre current style A6s for ~£18k upwards. You can get the 2.0 TDI for less but they don't seem 1/2 as smooth to me.

I am bothered about spec though ;) Mine has full leather, electric seats, DVD sat nav, BOSE, bluetooth phone, lighting pack... Got it from an Audi dealer for just under £22k including GAP & road tax.

It is rather deep, I tried reaching all the way to the back but couldn't, i'll have to get a grabby stick for if I lose anything in there ;) In some ways though it doesn't actually feel to have as much room as my mondeo did, I think it's the squareness of it, with the boxed in panels in the back (sat nav/whatever one side and the tool kit the other), that extra width came in handy sometimes.

Just an observation but isn't it curious how in the UK this is the first question most people ask - even in real life. It's as if in the UK we buy a peice of aycrlic and an odometer as colleagues, friends and aquitainces will always be more interested in what plate and mileage your new car is than how fast it goes, what toys its got or how powerful the engine is.

Sorry to pick on you Luke as you were the first to mention it but, now you've got your answer - 32k - how does that help you enjoy his car? :p

I wonder if this is any different on the Continent?

I've seen 2 year old cars on 150k!!

My 4,500 mile car had trouble starting today... back to Audi if it does it again.

Thats life, the first thing everyone asks about a new car is whats the mileage. No car will fell as crisp at 150k as it did at 30k no matter how well its engineered. To the majority of public how the car drives and how worn out it is are whats important. The days of cars being knackered over 100k are over, most cars will go on for a long time if looked after but they will never be crisp like a low mileage car unless all the rubbers, suspension componants, moving parts and trim are replaced and prices reflect this. Even a good condition high mileage car has a body and suspension thats driven the miles and taken more wear than a lower mileage one.

I don't think thats most peoples motivation behind asking, Dandle. I mean we have here a mint condition sub 2 year old Audi A6 - it clearly wasn't ever going to be a 100k car becuase cars that have done that sort of mileage in 2 years are, whilst possible, extremely rare.

You could, for example, pick up a 2 month old ex demonstrator and somebody, somewhere, would ask what the mileage is as the first question (Maybe not here, but someone you tell will). The car itself always seems to be a secondary source of interest behind the mileage and the reg plate..

Maybe but it could quite of easily covered 70 to 80k in that time and that would change the price quite a bit over a 30k mile car.
