Well my brothers uni house got broken into on halloween and all of the laptops in the house got stolen
They checked the insurance and it only covers desktops so this time around my borther would like a desktop :)

Budget of £350, used for pretty generic stuff but some light gaming aswell, starcraft II, Total War games etc.

I currently have:
- 4gb DDr 1600mhz (XMS3 saved from an old build)
- HD 4850 512 mb ( somewhere)
- Copy of win7 professional
- I think theres an old 320gb external hard drive lying around ( i shal enquire into that xD)

He already has speakers, keyboard, mouse and a nice 1080p samsung monitor i think its 21".

Whats left to get:
- Mobo
- Processor
- PSU
- Case
- Optical drive
-Maybe a Hard drive

I was thinking Llano was basically designed for this type of build?
-AMD Llano A6-3650
-Mobo i have no clue about for llano?
-Bequiet 530w
-Cooler Master Elite 430
-LG GH24NS70 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter

However if sandybridge is still the way forward then i dont really mind, bit of advice please :D

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2300 2.80GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £145.99
1 x MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION ** £87.98
1 x Antec TruePower New Modular 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £69.98
1 x Cooler Master Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black £39.98
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £17.99
Total : £376.03 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Since you said a "maybe" on the HDD I didn't include one, it is a little over budget but not vast amounts, though if you can stretch to about £430 then you get him the top end i5 chip which would give him room for over clocking in the future (after buying a after market CPU cooler, but those are about £20 ish for something decent).

Stoner81.

EDIT - Monkey nuts I forgot to add RAM what a plonker... anyway here is 4GB of RAM currently out of stock but a bargain at £30 ---> http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-203-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

This allows you to overclock as I have included a "K" CPU and a Z68 chipset motherboard, I also left out the harddrive as you diid say "maybe" so aslong as you have a SATA harddrive then you can use it.

The motherboard is a great budget overclocker also,

Quick question, when he leaves uni he might get a nice graphics card for it so is 500w psu enough and should i change the case to an antec 100?

The 500W PSU will be fine for cards upto the GTX560ti/6950 mark.

should i change the case to an antec 100?

If he likes the case, then go for it, the Antec300 is cheaper and actually a slightly bigger case.

Good news, Budget increase to £410, im tempted to deop im to the i5 2300 so he can get a more powerful graphics card maybe a 4890/5850(if im lucky) i doubt he'd ever overclock anywho.

I might be able to find a 4890 on the mm for cheeper but i dont think he wants me buying 2nd hand parts really, ideas xD?

Umm,

You will get the SSD caching/Lucid/quicksync etc, and I suppose if he eventually got a "k" cpu (ivybridge maybe?) then the overclocking option is there.

yeh thats what i was thinking but he doesnt really give a **** about his computer xD
So i think il just save on the Mobo and get him a GPU capable of some gaming :).

Part of me wants to order the Dragonlord case and give him my CM690 but im poor at the moment :(

Well the Gigabyte has 4 vs 2 RAM slots, an arguably better selection of slots ( no old pci), ther MSI has USB3.0 at the rear, the only thing to make sure of is that an I/O shield plate is included as they are B grade (sata cables cost bobbins if none are included)

Thank you :) il send them a query about both. Now its just the psu to decide on
lepa500w or the bequiet 530w.

If i get the Bgrade mobo's i can afford a 6850 with dues ex and dirt3 i believe :D

Its all in the basket :D
Just waiting until tomorrow ordering it through my dads company :)

The question is do i give my brother the codes for the games ;P
