Asking the Police if they would rather carry a gun or a tazer, among many other questions.
I expect the Met to be fully armed in 10 years. Maybe even ED209s patrolling football matches instead of mounted police.
Id guess the rest of the country would soon follow suit if the questions lead to arming boobys (bobbies)

I don't see the problem in them being asked, most police have no interest in them all carrying some form of firearms.
 
Cultural enrichment and the militarisation of the police go hand-in-hand. Sorry folks but the era of Dixon of Dock Green is well and truly over. For the moment there might be a majority of officers that think by remaining gun-free they're part of the Bestest Policeforce in the World, but in reality they'll be failing in their duty to protect the public.

Not a chance. They might have routine Taser rollout in that time (and realistically, that's what this survey will perhaps be hoping to achieve), but routine arming is a long, long way away.

Not sure what the topic title is alluding to either; Police Federations ask this question of their members every so often.

Rarely can the Police actually protect anyone - They can catch the wrongdoer and bring them to justice, perhaps even assist in getting the victim compensated... but most of the time teh crime has already happened.

My concern would be how the criminals respond to meet the increase in armed Police - Would we see more firearms in use and more deaths in crimes?
 
Don't see an issue with taser like weapons being used (temporarily incapacitate).

Bit of jump going from that to full on lethal force, keep guns for specialised units.

Tbf, its that sort of thing stops them from going full 'merican.

I'm all for it, but then in ni you get somewhat used to every copper you see having a glock on his belt.

Better to have it and not need/never use it etc etc.
 
As long as there's SO19 to triple tap the odd gun wielding self proclaimed rude boy the majority of the police will be happy as they are.
 
Plenty of armed police around already, i often see them around swindon (just now infact, they were going to review some cctv after a robbery) and this is a small town.

Interesting point.
I wonder if for example, recorded police fatalities have changed much over the last 100 plus years, so I looked this up.

Looking at the totals by year, they don't show a growth in murder of police officers (though there is a spike in the 80s). The lack of growth is surprising as during that time the population has grown massively and is somewhat more diverse.
