It's like everything else really,if it can be tried some muppet will try it.
 
I think this is probably a visual interpretation of the law of diminishing returns... 8 gfx cards probably equals 4 times the power of 1.

I really hope this sort of thing doesn't catch on.. Don't get me wrong I like sli but I think doubling up is fine, quadrupling or more is just encouraging manufacturers to produce sloppy, unoptimised hardware on the premise that you can always buy a couple more :(
 
sureley that would produce bottlenecks on the pci lanes, not to mention all the gpu's running, sureley that is just too much power?

although someone please correct me if im wrong because im hoping i am :D
