Ok, mentioned in another thread - really wanted to ask everyone. Thought it would be taking it a bit off topic. So....

Anyone know any good magic tricks?
Coin ones in particular (as you always have change on you).
Would really like to learn some - great for keeping my daughters quiet when we are out and about.

Hi.

I didn't send a link, just some recommendations on a book and dvd regarding coin magic which are very good to learn from.

How old is your son? What branch of magic is he interested in?

You haven't posted any of your pro tricks for a while dude, whats the hold up? :p

Really need a DV Camcorder - My digital camera movie mode doesn't do things justice. Plus i've been practising hard and working on something that will look good on video :) Won't be long now.

Hi my son is 9 years old and he is into card tricks mainly
we got him a magic set for xmas any tips would be great thanks

What sort of magic set did you get him?

At nine years old you really want easy to do magic, nothing that involves lots of practise and sleight of hand. The best thing to do give him is a few decks of (United States Playing Card Company) 'Bicycle' cards.

Good quality playing cards make shuffling and manipulation so much easier. Buy online or from costco - 10 quid for a brick of 12 decks ;)

You might be better off getting him bridge size rather than poker size as they are easier for smaller hands.

I think if he really enjoys it you should be willing to support him and it appears you do. It really is a great hobby. See if there are any magic dealers in your area - they will be able to suggest good starting points and tuition DVDs. Unfortunatly most magic tuition books are difficult to follow for youngsters.

My girlfriend and mum are bored sick of tricks now, but its always good in the pub, my mates hate me :p

Let me know if you have any more questions or if he would like to know something?

cheers m8 will do i get the wife to buy him the cards online later on
the magic set we bought him was the high street chain think Argos or somewhere only a stocking filler as such but he loves it gets him from behind the tv screen playing the PS2 and alike

Yeah- The only gripe I have with magic is that practise, which makes up a fair amount of time invested in the past-time, is a fairly solitary thing. You can't really practise with people without exposing secrets from time to time.

Many would slate me for this, but marvins magic have some decent magic sets with good dvd's for youngsters. They do have a card-magic set I believe.

The other thing you could do, if he is still interested in say a month or two, would be to join him up as a member of the Junior Magic Circle. That wasn't around when I started out! :) This would open him up to a more social aspect of practise.

There are some good websites around too if you look ;)

well its his b/day on the 5 th march so we are going to buy him a few tricks and stuff
so it will be a Marvins magic set then espically has it has the dvd tin this will help him move along a little bit ,he does a lot of practice on the evening with me and then goes to school and show all his friends the tricks he can do now and he even comes home sometimes with a few quid in his pocket from the tricks his knows lol
is there any sort of joining age for the Junior circle ?
cheers for the advice
