we've had some great game releases in the last few months and a certain crysis released this coming week, whats going to be the next biggy in the new year?

Thats the problem... We're getting all these awesome releases from October - December - next year we'll all have finished the games and then be lost for another year :p

That's just it though - I don't think I'll have finished all the games from recent months any time soon. There's so many that it will take ages to play through them all.

For example, there's plenty of great 2006 games I haven't completed yet - Oblivion, Dark Crusade, Company of Heroes etc.

I gave up waiting for the 'next big thing' years ago - I'm happy to play the last big thing :)

me too (was just interested to hear what may be coming sometime next year :)), currently playing the GOTY version of Oblivion.

Far Cry 2 is probably the one that will start the hype machine rolling again.

ID's Rage. Not because it will be a great game (you can't really say ID are known for great plots) but because they will raise the bar for graphics; then sell the engine to all the other developers letting them focus on making great games. Rather like the unreal engine, quake engine etc did

ID made the Quake series and RTCW, I think they have made some of the best games ever developed.. RTCW being my favourite PC game ever!!

id didn't actually make RTCW, they merely supported and oversaw the development.

They do work quite closely with various parties like Raven, Splash Damage etc but it may surprise people to learn that they haven't actually created and developed a new franchise themselves in over 10 years - the only in-house stuff they've done since Wolf3D some 15 years ago has been Doom and Quake games.
