Android 2.2 (Froyo)

Google basically gave away $124m? That was the price of On2. Only real assets On2 had was the video codec IP.

I take it you're not rooted then? If you are get yourself Cyanogen 5.0.7 for the Dream (The name for the unbranded G1) that's running 2.1 ported from the Nexus One, no doubt 2.2 won't be far behind :)

Samsung don't have a good history :( The first Galaxy was rubbish and completely disowned by Samsung with regards to upgrades. The other issue to consider is if the phone is capable of running the shiny parts of 2.2 like flash, others may suffer the same fate :(

I don't know what the Samsung dev community is like, but that's you best bet for getting 2.2, albeit unofficially :)

Yeah I heard that about samsung, they really are bad about updating there mobiles unfortunately :(, but really am hoping that they will update to 2.2 for all the new shiny features(should most mobiles not be getting this update as it is a pretty necessary update considering how much faster it will be, fixed bugs (apparently quite a few for the I5700 with 2.1, but I haven't noticed any yet :p), flash etc. although obviously mobiles which are pretty old won't be getting this update).

The only thing hardware wise which would stop the I5700 from running 2.2 would be the RAM i think (don't really know tbh lol) as it's only around 128Mb I think but the CPU is pretty decent 800MHz. I haven't rooted my mobile, scared encase I brick it :p and plus I don't have a clue of how to do it either lol, had a look for guides and all but not sure which one is the best.

Thanks, will have a look into rooting my mobile and flashing it to 2.2 if it doesn't officially come to the I5700, although won't it take a few months if they do decide to update from 2.1 to 2.2 for the I5700?
