It could also be the permissions issue that Desire users had, glad I backed up all my .apk's![]()
Does it matter where on the SD card the update.zip goes?
I tried this method to get back to stock, and that worked no problems

did you rename it "update.zip" resulting in update.zip.zip or is it update.zip, ie correct?
I went all the way back last night, to the very first shipping ROM, then it auto updated to the newer one, and that worked when I flashed over it. Very strange
