Being partially sighted, I've always preferred larger dials, thus 4x3 keyboard with T9 dictionary. 2 days ago, my phone prompted me that it could update to Android 4.3, so I let it go ahead. No more 4x3 keyboard. I have checked language and input settings, just 1 keyboard offered now, and the portrait-view setting has disappeared. Google results also confirmed that Android 4.3 has knocked out the 4x3 keyboard. What I also found out on Google is that you can add keyboards to the handset via Google Play like with launchers. I found one myself, and although it's not 100% like-for-like, it is in 4x3 with T9.

Do you have any keyboard recommendations? Otherwise, it's just a heads up that keyboards can be added like launchers can. I knew about extra launchers already, just didn't know about extra keyboards.

Some people hate it but no matter what keyboard I switch to I always end up back with Swype.

Its a few pence on the Play store but worth it in my opinion. It's great as both a "swype" kb and a normal tap kb. Swiftkey is another alternative (though not as good in my opinion and more expensive).
