Anyone know how to get rid of these new emoji icons in Android 6 and go back to the old ones.

Updated my phone and they've been bugging me since, they just look awful.

Also with the new app permission system do apps now install with all permissions granted until you go in to settings and change them?

Thanks

What phone? You usually need to root to replace emojis.

With apps designed with Marshamallow in mind, after they install all permissions will be disabled. They will ask you to enable permissions first time they need to use that permission. Older apps will have all their permissions granted by default.

HTC One M8

Ah right, think I might do a factory reset as I enabled the SD card merge when I upgraded and things have gone a bit buggy.

So root is the only option?

I'm pretty sure HTC uses their own set of emoticons, I'm assuming he uses the stock HTC keyboard.

Actually I think HTC may have a non-root method since you can change the font. It should be just downloading the font package with the old emoticons and then selecting that font in the system settings, although I'm not sure if there's an APK with the old emoticons.

EDIT: I found this developer who develops emoji fonts compatible with Samsung/HTC, could have a look there: https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Free+Font+Themes

Thanks, will try one of those for a bit.

It does change the emoji's but also slightly changes the font, not sure which is more annoying at the min :o

Tbh I use whatsapp most of the time anyway which doesn't use the new ones so not that big a deal, just a little thing that was bugging me.

If you're rooted you can download 'Emoji Switcher' from the Play Store. It's just as simple as choosing which version of them you want and it'll install them for you. I use the iOS emojis because they seem to be the most common.
