So I've gotten to the point where it's backup setup time after moving into new house.

To set the scene I have a home server as a central hub and connect everything to it.
Problem is my phone!

1, I seem to have a physical Sd card in my phone, but it is given a string of numbers Xxxx-Xxxx. It is NOT "Sd card"
The Sd card folder exists where it should, but it's just internal memory. This is very confusing as now I have files all over the phone!

2, I can't get syncme (the app that mirrors my server folders to the phone) to write to the phone.
It can read but won't pass server side changes to the phone

This is android 6 so I thought read and write were possible?

But problem 1 is a mystery to me
I want "Sd card" to be my physical card

It's confusing, but one of the sdcard mount points is the internal storage.

Have you installed your own sdcard, as in external storage?

Yes I have an Sd card in there. Im pretty sure it's not set to be internal.
Everything else other than Xxxx-Xxxx is internal

Marshmallow allocates a name in the format of XXXX-XXXX to the MicroSD Card. If it's not a Samsung phone you should have the option of setting the MicroSD card as either 'Portable' or 'Internal' storage. Internal treats both the phone's memory and the MicroSD card as one. I think you'd need to format the card again to have the option to treat it as 'Portable' storage. I believe Samsung phones only allow the MicroSD card to be treated as 'Portable' storage.

It's likely to be a Marshmallow 'permissions' for option 2. You'll probably have to give the syncme app permission to access 'Storage' in the App settings.

Ah, so android 6 gives the card a string of numbers?
Why on earth is there an "Sd card" folder sitting in the local storage?

It is a Samsung phone.
I was starting to think syncme should be asking for a permission, it doesn't, I've been reading on this, apparently if the dev hasn't implemented this feature there is nothing I can do about it right?

Assuming the App is on your phone then find it in Application Manager and check the permissions. If it won't allow you to change them then restart the phone in 'Safe' mode and it will allow you to change the permission.

With it being a Samsung phone the card should be treated as 'Portable' storage. There's a good overview on the Motorola site.

Edit: The SD card shown is possibly the internal storage and some programs report it as an SD Card and not necessarily SD Card 1, it could be reported as SD Card 2
