Android 6 Sony phone not sending Outlook emails

Hello.

A friend has an Android 6 Sony phone with an Outlook account setup. The SMTP settings for outgoing emails is correct.

The phone will not send any emails from this account, they all just pile up in the Outbox.

I can't install the Outlook app as it needs Android 7 or higher.

Does anyone know what might be going on? I can sent emails when logged into the Outlook.com website.

To reply to my own thread, K9 mail might have done the trick.
