Android app access

Looking to add a football based android app but it asks for permissions and i'm unsure as to if it's safe.

Any ideas?

Permissions won't necessarily reveal if an app is malicious.

In this case, I'd be cautious because the app only has 5 downloads.

What sort of football app needs the ability to send text messages and call people? Honestly, I would avoid like the plague.
Alternatively, depending on how comfortable you are with android and if you're rooted, you could grab something like xPosed and add on the xPrivacy module which lets you manually grant/deny each permission as and when the app requests it.
