I am seriously considering buying a HTC Hero and just wondering what apps there are to download, compared to the iphone app store. Also i like to play games, are there any good ones? Also use this thread to list your favorite apps for android!

Games - throttlecopter, keepy uppy, bonsai blast so far but there are many many more

Apps - Wapedia, google voice search, close everything 2, locale, maps

those are just a few to be honest, my magic is in t'other room charging. But the market is loaded with decent apps and while the number may not match the iphone app store i would say the quality does.

connectbot ssh client
andftp ftp/sftp client
adfree (root needed) uses hosts file to block advert sites
ASTRO file manager
K9 email client
Meridian media player
youtube downloader (google removed it from the market but you can still find the apk file on the net)

I love the Android Market, hours of fun.

Apps:

SMS Popup - Self explanatory
WorldTour - Background image of a webcam/globe daylight (hard to explain but brilliant)
Locale - sets rules/actions depending on situations ie location, battery level etc.
TasKiller - Easy task manager/shutting down of apps.
MyTracks - GPS sports tracker
Beebplayer - iplayer for Android. (Plus Live TV/Radio)
Youtube - great app
Battery Graph - Shows you your battery usage, pretty important considering the power the syncing can use up.
Palringo - IM client (MSN, Skype, Gmail etc)
ChompSMS
Skype - You know
Twitroid - Twitter client
Hullomail - Visual/Email voicemail (Saves your voicemails as mp3's, emails them to you/saves to your phone.
Shazam - Song IDer
Cab4Me - Gives you Cab numbers of closest cab companies
TuneWiki - Good Musicplayer
AndNav2 - Free SatNav, bit dodgy but free (Copilot is better but you have to pay)
Astro - File navigator, backup apps, image viewer - v v good app.
aTrackDog - tells you what apps need updating, useful.
Facebook Sync - Syncs your contacts with facebook pictures. (Find it here: www.anda.pk)

Games:

Abduction
Labyrinth
Monopoly
Pacman
Throttlecopter
Bonsai Blast
Armadillo Roll
Light Racer
Shed load of decent soundboards - ie Fonejacker/Arnie.

My one big hesitation with the Android OS is that from what i can see there doesn't seem to be aany proper GPS applications from companys like tomtom etc? It really is handy having gps on my phone and I am tempted by the iphone now seeing as that now has it, but if Android does have this then i would definetly buy a phone with it on.

I believe there is now a good navigation app you can buy from one of the big names but I can't remember what it is called.

I'm also using copilot on my G1. I love it, it's a proper satnav, not just a google maps overlay like the previous ones were.
Well worth the money, and easy to buy additional maps for too.

I did yes 23 notes then add the vat=26. you have a choice to either download the maps to your comp or straight to your mobile,

copilot looks good but bit confused, why it called "live" ? does it means you need internet connection all the time when using copilot? is it possible to download the map and store it in G1?

live means it gets live traffic updates ect, i have it and its great, well worth £26 concidering the only decent iphone navigation app os £80+
