Android Auto question (powered by my phone not built into car)

this is probably really stupid and the sort of question my mum would usually ask me!. (She has an excuse as a technophobe pensioner)

i find myself using android auto more and more. however when i ask it to play music, it defaults to trying to play on youtube music, at which point it says i need to log into youtube music.

if i want to play music on amazon music or spotify i have to specifically request it to be on those services.

i have 2 questions

1) how do i sign into youtube music on android auto? i have looked and cant find a setting.

2) is there a simple way to make either spotify or amazon music the default service when i choose a song?

(oh and 3 i assume i have to be in my car on android auto to do this, or can i do it on my phone?)

Open Android Auto on your phone, go to Google assistant, go to music services and select which one you want it to default to.
