google not exactly helpful

Open the "Messages" tab. Create a backup of your messages. Disconnect the phone, and connect the new Android device. Choose which messages to transfer from the backup to the phone

anyone be able to help me please ?
Samsung phones if it helps?

Thanks

My reasonably "stock" android phones (Motorola->Nokia->Poco) have always copied everything including messages just using the standard google setup and migration wizard

I'm guessing Samsung have their own version of the messaging app?

hmm, It might be "Samsung messaging"
it still should have backed up and restored via Samsung back up and and restore i did

I use SMS backup & restore by synctech via the play store, it will copy sms and call logs, you setup google drive access to save copy online then sign in with new phone and restore from your backup.

Samsung's sync tool copied everything over for me across my last 2 Samsung phones including texts. Before that, I was using an app called SMS Backup. It uses a subfolder in your Gmail inbox for storing the messages, then on the new phone, install SMS Backup again and it will retrieve the messages. So give that a try if Samsung's sync isn't working for SMS.
