Hi guys

Quick question, I am looking to start writing Android applications but notice that they rely on Java programming knowledge, do you know how much Java you need to know and can anyone recommend a suitable book?

I was thinking of purchasing Head First Java as a starter, or are there Android programming books that teach the Java side also? (to a beginner)

What do you think?

Thanks :)

I'm currently doing a bit of Android development. Have you got any programming knowledge at the moment?

This was my first attempt at using Java and it's pretty straight forward if you've got experience in another modern OO language - I've been using C# for quite a few years and it's not that much of a change.

If you've no experience at all then it might be best to try and learn the basics of Java on your desktop and forget about Android for now. Developing for smart phones can be a frustrating way to learn a language.
