Android Facebook Notification Sound

I've just bought myself my first reasonable high-end phone, a Moto Z Play. I've downloaded the Facebook app and set notifications to vibrate only, no sound. However i'm still having a sound effect every time I receive a notification, i've changed the sound effect within the app and it isn't the sound effect i'm hearing whenever I receive a notification. Is there some other setting in the phone that's causing the notification sound effect even though it's disabled in the Facebook app? I don't want to disable notifications completely, just the sound effect.

This is on my S7 but would assume it's the same idea. Settings>sounds&vibration>notification sounds>default notification sound. Set to silent. Unsure if you can do it per app as I have most notifications turned off from social media etc.

I've just checked my settings: Sound & notification, app notifications. I only have the ability to block all notifications, not just the sound effect. If I set my default sound effect to silent, then I wont receive an audible notification for any app?

True, but as I said I turn off notifications from pretty much every app except messenger apps. Hate getting annoyed by BBC news etc. or Facebook telling me someone has liked a pic. Is the sound you are getting the same as the default notification sound in the phone settings?

Yeah, I changed the default notification sound and the default Facebook notification sound, the sound i'm hearing is the default sound for everything, not the default Facebook sound. I'm unable to change the settings purely for sound effects, it'll only let me completely stop any notifications from the app, not just the sound effects. Settings>Sound & Notification>App Notifications>Facebook>Block all, Treat as priority, Allow peeking and Hide sensitive content are the only options I have.

You are probably in the wrong screen. Maybe moto has an app notifications screen under system settings > Sounds and notifications that other OEM phones do not have (as it's not logical since you should be settings app notifications from within said apps).

You need to choose a tone for every app in those apps directly.

Load Facebook, click the 3 lines button top right, scroll to the bottom, scroll up a bit then click App Settings > Notifications > Ringtone

You can then choose a new tone for Facebook.

You can download any wav or mp3/aac file and place it in the following folder structure to allow apps to use them:

SD card (or internal storage) / Audio / Notifications
SD card (or internal storage) / Audio / Ringtones
SD card (or internal storage) / Audio / Alarms

That's pretty self explanatory on how those work :p

I put a "-" in front of all custom tones I've added myself, that way they are at the top of the list on tone selection dialogue boxes when I'm choosing a new tone for any given app.
