Does anyone know how to disable threaded view on the Gmail app for android? I know where the option is but it doesn't seem to do anything. I really can't seem to get to grips with threaded view, it makes me instantly rage when trying to read emails in the correct order. Can anyone recommend an alternative free email client if there's no way of disabling it?

Go to left side/hamburger menu -> Settings -> General settings and untick Conversation view, should disable the threading.

The reason it's not working for you is because it's threaded view for all but Gmail accounts:

You'll have to use another mail client app if you want to turn off threaded view for Gmail inboxes. Not sure why you'd want to though. nothing more annoying than having to sift through a list of emails to find a reply to a long email conversation spanning days/weeks because threaded mode is turned off so emails are all over the place.

Having the option is nice though yeah for those that do.

I just find it really difficult to read. At least with threaded turned off I can look at the time stamps of the individual messages.

Any recommendations for alternative email clients?

The Outlook app supports other mail accounts too and have options to turn off threaded view. Tried that by adding your gmail to it and disabling Gmail sync in Gmail's app?

Amazing that Google gives you the option to turn off threaded view on pop3, imap and exchange accounts but not on their own accounts! I quite agree, threaded view is about the worst thing to have happened to email in recent years.
