I've asked before was some time ago so figured I'd ask again as there may have been new hardware.

I need a landline phone for my office. At the moment I have a virtual number which is directed to my mobile costing 12p a minute. I'd like to direct this to a landline when in the office, costing 2p a minute, however I want to use an android handset so I benefit from the Android contacts sync and voicemail system we use which syncs between all devices.

Anyone know of a decent android landline handset? I've found one by bt but at a cost of £130 was way too much for what it was.

Failing that, how easy would it be to set up an android handset as a voip device, as directing my virtual number via voip is free. Could then buy a second hand android device that's always at the office connected by wifi

I use an Android device with CSipSimple and Sipgate (who are/were offering free UK 'landline' numbers) and on the whole it works well. Only issue i have is Sipgate's voicemail is a bit hit/miss - it'll record messages, forward them onto emails etc but the quality can be a bit poor sometimes. However, i just get it to forward the calls to my mobile after X rings instead.

But there are plenty of SIP/VOIP providers.

siemens gigaset 930h - doesn't need a base station, would work off wifi for sip. You could add in the normal base station or the n300a IP base station (supports landline AND several sip connections at the same time) although I'm not 100% it works together so you would need to check it. It isn't cheap though sadly.

Personally, and I work from home too, I use the n300a IP with 3 normal dect phones (siemens c430h) for my voip setup, 2 of which have both the home landline AND the work sip number linked to them, the third is purely landline.

IIRC archos do one too

'some' android mobiles have built in sip functions.... and there's plenty of apps out there that would do the job too so this is another option, you could even grab say a moto e or similar (although may be worth getting one with a dock charger option)

thanks guys. finally managed to get this dealt with. i went with sipcentric, cost me £2.40 for the number and i just pay £1.20 inc VAT per month to have this number forwarded to CSipSimple on android. comes with some great features and i can see using more and more SipCentric has to offer as time goes on.

Just need a budget android phone now that will allow dock usage
