I have a Samsung A52S 5G it doesn't seem to auto switch to 4G when i have been somewhere that has a weak signal, example my work building is a terrible signal but outside you get 4G and this is when it won't switch to 4G, i have to turn on airplane mode then turn it off then i get 4G.

Any suggestions how to fix this?

Can't help, but I will say that this seems to be standard behaviour in variable signal areas.

Both my old Sony XZ1 (and my older Sony phones before that iirc) and my current Samsung S21 act like that. As does my son's Pixel 4a and Wife's S29fe

Annoyingly, on the S21 Airplane Mode can take about 10+ seconds to turn on, meaning waiting before I can turn it off again.

In all cases, 4g would switch back on, but generally take longer to do so than using the airplane mode trick.
Not great then, I do remember the same thing happen on a old phone when it was just 2G and 3G, i remember the phone sorting itself out on its own.

@wigster

I go straight to Android settings then network and internet then tapping sims and then tapping mobile data either on or off here.

The above sentence lands you here, if you look at mobile data access mobile data and turn it on it enables automatic switch over to mobile data when out of range with wifi.

A toggle that goes to 4g from 5g.

I remember it being a thing back in the day for older 3g to 2g.
@lltfdaniel Thanks yes that's right exactly how mine is setup to automatically switch from wifi to data it does that fine, it's when i go into a crappy mobile signal only 2G then when I'm out it won't automatically switch to 4G.

@kona786 I see so my situation would be a toggle to go from 2g to 4g.
