Android phone, email notifications only for certain emails

I have a question for Android users.

Basically I have a Nokia 5.1 Plus, running Android 10. I'm using the Android Gmail app, and would like email notifications but only for certain emails, such as notifications from certain senders.

I have managed to enable email notifications, however I'm being alerted to all emails. How do I create rules to manage who I receive notifications from?

Many thanks
Jason

I don't believe you can directly do that, but I have a slight workaround to it.

The app allows notifications from either all email, or only important email.

From there it's just a case of setting up filters in Gmail to flag whatever emails are important.

This might explain why I can't find it then.

I don't use Gmail, I have my own email server.

You could set up a gmail account and auto-forward the email you're after.

It's a bit clunky i agree, but i suspect you'll be a bit limited with what you can do otherwise.

Don't you think it's strange that Android can't do it, MS Outlook has had rules for 20+ years.

Alphabet had $182.5 billion revenue in 2020, from that money can't they allocate a couple of developers to add rules to the app?

There's nothing stopping you from using the Outlook app, although I have no idea if it can do what you want. There's plenty of other email apps as well, you're not locked to using Gmail. Nine mail can be set to alert you for only emails in a certain folder, so for that maybe set a rule to move important emails to that folder.

Gmail itself is mainly aimed at the average user. They killed off Inbox which was far more useful for the power user.

Orcvader / Semple, I was having a bit of a whinge at Google that's all, given value and resources of the company.

I have tried Outlook on Android, however I've had issues with that app where it randomly stops syncing emails, I will try it Outlook app again.

But otherwise I do appreciate you both helping, you explained why I could not find the feature when I originally searched for it.
