Hi All

A friend has created an Android App but it needs to Armv7 and Neon for it to work. I'm trying to compile a list of phones that support this and tbh the cheaper the phone the better for what we are trying todo (sports app for clubs).

I would really appreciate it if people could install this

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hardware.armv7neon.checker

Then reply with the phone model and the results

Many thanks

Tals

Pretty much all ARM phones run the ARMv7 instruction set, it's been the standard for quite a long while now.

NEON on the other hand will depend more on the manufacturer. I believe all of Samsung's Exynos supports NEON, and all of Qualcomm's Snapdragons. TI's OMAP 3 and Nvidia's Tegra 3 and above supports it. I'm not too sure on other manufacturers but the ones I have listed are the more common ones. Intel is x86 and not ARM so Intel powered phones are out.

Thank you for that, the trouble is I need a definitive. The application is free and will be for sports clubs, most likely they will get the phone solely for this app. what I can't do is say probably and then it doesn't work and we're looking for it to work on the cheapest phone with 4.5 inch screen or better. Incidentally it doesn't need to be a phone a Wi-Fi device would be fine as well

For the cheapest phone with a 4.5" screen, the Moto G comes to my mind first, and is about £130. I can't really think of any cheaper phones with a 4.5" screen.

There's a list of V6 on xda (it's old but newer stuff is all V7) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1596800. You could just say requires Android 4.0+ and a 1.4Ghz DC+ which I am fairly sure would remove all the non-NEONs

That's really helpful thank you. Because we are looking for cheap we have found an HTC Desire passes so those are the ones we are really interested in low end mobile which maybe old but supports Neon and v7. So if anyone reading this thread has an older mobile then testing is really appretiated but your list looks pretty good

Probably better looking by chipset then - Scorpions had NEON so I'd look for phones that used a QSD8250 for example.

Quick question, wouldn't it be easier to just have a button within the app which sends the model no and test outcome to a hosted database?

I would agree, I did send a message to the author but had no response, I don't think he collected the data which would have been the sensible thing to-do
