I've had slow wifi on Android devices for years but now I've got a tablet & wish to stream 1080p with xbmc / file explorer & copy large files etc. the 10mbit (1mb/sec) cap on Android is a problem.
Is there a fix? Ta

Android device connects at 72mbit 1meter from router but only copies from a windows workgroup pc at 1mb/sec, dropping to 500kb/sec 2 rooms away.
Laptop running Windows 7 connects at 54mbit 2 rooms away & copies at 4.6mb/sec.

What I've tried so far:
Different...
Android devices including HTC HD2, Galaxy Nexus, Toshiba Excite Pro 108 tablet.
ROM's including custom from OS2.3 to OS4.3 stock/cm/miui etc. & 3rd party kernals.
Routers including new Sky SR101, Thomson 785v7, Netgear dg834gt.
WiFi security protocols inc. no security (open), no WPS, WEP, WPA2.
WiFi channels.
WiFi speeds B, G, N.
Copying from Windows 8, Windows 7 networked computers.
Android file copying apps.

Has anyone anymore ideas, apart from going Apple lol.

[Edit] large pics from Galaxy Nexus removed & links on next post.

Just turned the Windows 7 laptop plugged into LAN (10mb/sec) right next to the tablet into a hotspot & it connected at 135mbits which is quite good but the file transfer speed only increased from 700kb/sec to 1.1mb/sec.
This has ruled out the router I think.

Get same speed copying to internal memory or SDcard.

I think I need Google cifs / samba as im using es file explorer anyway.
Actually maybe xbmc on the tablet was struggling too as it accessed files over Windows SMB.

Ooh no I remember now Samba is on Linux.... Never again!
I tried a few distros & they all sucked. They look nice & can play a video if you're lucky but I spent 2 weeks trying get Linux work with XBMC but no go, it could not handle a MCE remote control or did then forgot the settings. No wonder Linux never caught on.

just tried es fileexplorer to transfer a file from a shared folder on my windows 8 machine to my gs4 ....1mb/sec. This is direct to a uhs-1 card over a wireless-n connection.

hmm.

At last someone else capped at 1mb/sec.
Do all Android devices have crap WiFi adapters? Or is it a protocol issue?

Right now my tablet (which is supposed to have a much improved WiFi N) is connected to my laptop hotspot at 150mbits (15mb/sec) but is only copying files at 1mb/sec.
