Does something like this exist?

I like variation, not just background or lockscreen, but mainly them.

Lockscreen on Windows 10 for example now switches pics, displayfusion does my desktop wallpapers on every screen every 2 hours. I like the change.

My Z3 is just boring though, the original Xperia theme is nice with all the variation in colors, and I like animations on touch on the lockscreen, but I hate the (bottom) buttons, and don't want to it to always be the same. So I just manually switch theme every week or so.

Is there an app that changes the theme automatically every 24 hours (for example on the most likely time I'm pretty much always asleep, around 7 AM) ?

you'll need a cm-based rom with cm theme manager built in or go for an aosp-based rom and use rro layers to theme the entire system (rro layers even does a load of apps depending on theme, cm themes sometimes theme stock apps [gmail, file browser etc]).

as for changing based on time, not sure, not something i've looked into.

cm theme manager:

e: cm themes can change icons on the status bar/navbar and the lockscreen icons.

there's also a 3rd party app called cm lockscreen changer where you can set different images on the lockscreen.

a new feature in cm13 is live lockscreen, but there's only 'colours' available for that so far which looks like a monitors' pixel test :p

As above, custom ROMs will give you much more flexibility on changing themes. CM's theme engine is probably the best out there. Google has added some basic support for RRO layers in Marshmallow but it's not fully there yet

But to do it by itself automatically? Not sure it can do that.

Hmmm, problem is I have had trouble installing different ROMS's on my phone, they seem to fail (luckily I can recover backup with my bootloader). I recently tried Cyanogen to get 6.0...

Currently use a stock Xperia 5.1 ROM with SuperSU without branding and TeamWin Recovery.

disagree, i much prefer rro layers as they theme so much more.

RRO themes just need rooted AOSP rom AFAIK. And they go quite deep.

you obviously need layers manager, but that can be installed on anything aosp based, and some manufacturer roms (like oxygenOS, but it's a bit finicky).

you might need to update your bootloader or twrp (or both).
