Looking for advice on 2 things:

What is the best Android TV (that plugs straight into the HDMI) that would essentially turn my TV into a smart Tv?

What is the best wireless media player, which will play all formats from my NAS, straight to my TV?

There aren't any 'Android TV' devices available in the UK yet are there?

There's a lot of devices that plug into your TV that run Android though.

not sure, happy with anything that turns my tv into a smart tv and streams all formats from my nas, and doesnt involve another box sitting around - if that exists

Can you put Plex on your NAS?

Chromecasts are pretty cool, but only 720p. For full HD the Amazon Fire TV is getting rave reviews, although side loading apps does have the feeling of "enjoy it while you can".

cant put anything on my NAS - seems pretty well closed up to running anything.

Any ideas on a device that runs android, has a remote and plugs into the HDMI and turns the tv into a smart tv? There seems loads out there, but they are many that have multiple good and bad reviews?

There are lots but the best I've found and the one I've settled on is a Roku 3. The OS is super smooth, the Netflix client is the best I've seen and Plex works beautifully.

NowTV, iPlayer, Amazon etc are all available and it streams everything I've thrown at it.

Being able to plug headphones directly into the remote is also a massive plus for me which is why I bought it in the 1st place.

Minix Neo X6

Cheapest android box to be able to play H.264, MPEG-2, VC-1 / WMV 9 and HEVC / H.265

Comes with 4.4 Kitkat pre-installed and XBMC too. With any apps from the play store available too. Only issue is Netflix won't play 1080p due to hardware restrictions, although Minix are getting at Netflix to resolve this.

The Minix community is really good too, and they regularly release updates.

Thanks all, going to order up a Roku 3 and a Mini Neo X6, unfortunately they both look like they need an external power supply = another box, but if it becomes an issue I'll look at the Android Mini Pcs CaNsA has suggested?

Anyone used or got an android stick they can recommend?

I'm confused, why are you ordering both and why do you need another 'Android stick'? The Roku will turn your TV into a smart TV and stream stuff from your NAS just fine either wireless or wired.

looked at the roku 3 reviews and they seem to say it is limited in the playback formats it will handle (and the price has gone up for Xmas!) so am reconsidering.

I have 2 TVs i'd like to make smart and stream wireless from my NAS, and want 2 of the same but cant decide so was going to get one of each (1 as a birthday present from parents) and return the least useful.

I am also looking for a self powered stick for my motor home TV that will stream from a wireless hdd (cant have a separate power supply as I am already limited).

The Minix does not need and external power supply.
